“Mike”, Michael Thomas Parker, died February 28, 2018 at Wesley Long Hospital.

A gathering of family and friends will be held from 11:00AM to 3:00PM Saturday March 3, 2018 at 8282 Ballard Road, Colfax, NC 27235.

Mike was a man of honor and duty who loved his country and dedicated his life to public service. He served in the United States Marines from 1968-1972 where he was assigned to the 5th Tank Battalion, which was a group of fighting Marines no longer active after November 1969. He earned the rank of Sergeant and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. Additionally, he served in the Air Force Reserves from 1984-1988. Mike was a career Police Officer serving on the City of Charlotte Police Department from 06/28/1972 - 04/26/1976 and retired from the Greensboro Police Department as a Corporal after serving from 8/16/79-3/31/2001. He was recognized for his excellence of service and leadership in addition to being a member of the Negotiation Team.

Mike was raised in Brevard, NC. In his younger years he was an avid baseball player. He loved watching sports, playing golf, going to casinos, traveling and had a passion for supporting animal rescue organizations and the Republican Party. Mike was known for his pragmatism, candor and living the life he wanted. He was greatly respected and loved. He will be missed by many and is survived by his older brother, Samuel Riley Parker of Alpharetta, GA; his son, Jefferson Michael Parker of Hendersonville, NC and his daughter, Christine Elizabeth Parker Solanzo of Fort Myers, FL; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his dear friend Meredith Sparks Parker of Greensboro, NC.
