Joseph LeRoyce Smith

October 11, 1954 ~ March 27, 2018 (age 63)

Joseph LeRoyce Smith, of Raleigh, left this earth peacefully and soared to the heavens on March 27, 2018.

There he joins his father, Phil Smith, sisters, Gail Partin and Jackie Wiggins and brothers in law Rudy Partin and Al Wiggins who surely welcomed him. Left to remember and miss him here on earth are his wife, Kathy Smith, son, AJ Smith, step daughter, Shannon Manley (husband, Justin and daughter, Kaitlyn), his mother, Beatrice Ennemoser and his sister, Phillis Soward. Many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, in-laws and friends remain to keep his memory alive as well.

Born at home in Raleigh during Hurricane Hazel on October 11, 1954, Joey was the youngest of four children and the only boy. He played Little League Baseball and enjoyed collecting baseball cards.  He was a graduate of Sanderson High School and was lead singer for the popular local band Jasper in the 70’s. Joey’s love of music was strong  and he passed his talent for playing the guitar to his son, AJ. After performing for a few years and running a printing press he eventually started his own printing business in Raleigh.

Joey was known for his love of NC STATE athletics. He particularly loved football and basketball. His favorite pastime was watching or attending games and was often seen sporting Wolfpack shirts, jackets and hats. He was also known for the pride he felt in his son’s accomplishments. Whether it be a youth football or basketball game or a college award presented to AJ at NC State, Joey was always there, beaming with pride.

Joey will always be remembered for the love he had for his wife of 30 years, Kathy and his children AJ and Shannon, his loyalty as a Pack fan, his musical talent, his wonderful sense of humor, his ability to pull pranks, his awesome bbq chicken, his ability to see the humor and a bright side in all situations no matter how bleak, his storytelling ability and his contagious laugh. These are the memories family and friends will fondly remember as Joey is honored in a private celebration of his life. He will be sorely missed by all who loved him.
