Welcome to the memorial page for

Steven Paul Kanaley

June 25, 1959 ~ April 6, 2017 (age 57)

The Piano Brothers

Steven Paul Kanaley, 57, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday April 6, 2017. He was surrounded by his loving

wife and children.

Steve was born June 25, 1959 to the late Barbara Ruth Saxer and Thomas Clifford Kanaley. He grew up in Newton, New Jersey

and relocated to South Florida in 1984 when he followed his then girlfriend and future wife to begin their love story

together. There, they were married and were blessed with the birth of three wonderful children. Steve was a member of South

Florida Carpenters local Union 115, and the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America. He was employed by

Lotspeich Co. of Florida, where he was nominated and received multiple awards from The Construction Association of South

Florida for excellence in commercial buildings.  After several years of badgering, Steve was able to convince his family to move to North Carolina in 2004.

He was employed for 12 years with Precision Walls, Inc. as a Superintendent. He took pride in his work and welcomed his

co-workers as an extension of his family. Steve had many passions including hunting (we think he just enjoyed sitting in the tree stand with a six pack because he never shot anything in 10 years..), fishing (he did catch some…), and NASCAR. He treasured his annual trips to the Pocono 500 race with his childhood friends of over 43 years; Randy Pittenger, Bob Foster, and his brother Glenn. Steve was able to attend every year, until last year when he was no longer physically able to be there.

Those left behind to cherish his memory include his wife of thirty years, Cynthia Vogt Kanaley; children, Todd Matthew

Kanaley, Meghan Elizabeth Kanaley, Ryan Austin Kanaley, and special grandson Eli Rider. Steve loved Eli and completed

five train sets for him in the last year with our favorite being the E&G Railroad (Eli & Gramps Railroad). Eli will

hear many train stories about his "Gramps" as he grows up.

Also surviving are his loving brothers and sister; Scott Kanaley (Jackie), Glenn Kanaley, Jane Jordan, and many other family

members and friends. He was loved and respected by all who knew him and will be missed dearly. Steve remained strong and

brave throughout his gallant fight and embraced the strength of the Lord as his journey here ended.

Services celebrating his life will be held at 2p.m. Saturday April 22, 2017 at Pierce-Jefferson Funeral Chapel,

213 West Mountain Street, Kernersville, NC. The Family will visit with friends immediately following the service in the

chapel with a reception next door at the Jefferson House for all in attendance.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in his honor may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro, 2500

Summit Avenue. A very special thank you to Dr. Marcelo Bonomi, the staff at Wake Forest Cancer Center, and the two

Hospice "angels" named Louise and Kathy, who were all absolutely amazing.
