Joseph James Gohn, Sr., 78, of Kernersville N.C. passed away Tuesday, November 14, 2017 after battling a long illness. Funeral Mass celebrating his life will be Monday November 20, 2017 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in High Point, officiated by Rev. Thomas P. Norris, O.S.F.S.   

Joe was born September 4, 1939 in Lancaster, PA, one of five children of the late Margaret and Hoffman “Huff” Gohn.  He attended Lancaster Catholic High School where he played football. A strong proponent for education, Joe was a proud graduate of Franklin & Marshall College and continued his educational path by obtaining a Masters Degree from UNC-Greensboro.  He began his professional career with Armstrong World Industries and later retired from R.J. Reynolds in 2003, as a sports marketing manager.

Some of his best memories would include trips to the mountains with his wife and their cherished dogs Coco and Beau J, reading, sharing stories about Franklin & Marshall College, and watching Carolina Panthers Football.

In addition to his parents Joe was preceded in death by; brothers, William Gohn, Donald Gohn, Sr.; sister, Madeline Booth, and grandson, Ryan Gohn.

Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Marcia Gohn and his daughter, Joanne Fierle and Dave; his sons, Michael Gohn, Kevin Gohn,  and Joseph Gohn, Jr. and Christy; his step-daughters, Donna Christy, Sondra Wilson and Rick; Diane Renfrow and Randy; grandchildren, Scott Fierle, Kevin Fierle and Tara, Eric Gohn, Rede Wilson, Mark Wilson, Christin Cratsley and David, Christopher Renfrow and Kaylen; great-grandchildren, Brianna Fierle, Sarah Barron, Nathan Gohn, Bradlee Cratsley, and Dominic Fierle; and many extended family and friends.

The visitation will be held Monday 10:30am until time of service at Immaculate Heart of Mary in High Point.  

The family would like to extend sincere gratitude to the Doctors and Nurses at WFUBMC and Hospice of High Point.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Jude’s Children Hosptial
