Welcome to the memorial page for

James "Stan" Stanley Hedgecock, Jr.

September 15, 1966 ~ November 20, 2017 (age 51)

James Stanley “Stan” Hedgecock, Jr., 51, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family November 20, 2017.

A native of Wake County, Stan was the son of Elizabeth Anne Alford Hedgecock and James Stanley Hedgecock, Sr. who both survive.

Stan was a graduate of Northwest Guilford High School Class of ’84. His high school friends remember him as kind and always wearing a smile. Later on, Stan returned to Wake County to attend North Carolina State University. Many times since he returned to Raleigh to cheer his team on, always having their back no matter what kind of season they were having. He even bought one of his daughters a car, placed NC State University stickers on the back, and told her she could not drive the car unless she left the stickers on. He loved his team! With an easy going nature, Stan took life as it came. He loved driving down a back road, windows down, Rolling Stones or Bob Dylan playing to accompany him on his ride. He loved a Saturday morning flea market and a good cup of coffee.

Early in the morning  Stan rode his bicycle for miles down the road before beginning his day working for New Home Building Supply as a salesman and overseer of construction projects. He was a natural born salesman and frequently shared with friends and family that he felt as though he never worked a day in his life; he was just doing what he loved with an employer who believed in him and coworkers who supported him. His evenings were spent building beautiful furniture in his backyard woodshop.

Stan would stop on the side of the road to pick up a battered piece of furniture, take it home, and refurbish the piece until it was an artifact of history, hard work, and beauty. In this same way, he moved towards people with similar histories as his own and found dignity in the brokenness and worked with them to “refurbish” their lives. Through Alcoholics Anonymous and his family relationships, Stan’s gratitude for life and second chances showed in his craft and his friendships.

Survivors include his daughters Mollie Hedgecock and husband Adam Pinkham of Summerfield, and Abigail Hedgecock of Whitsett; sons Jacob Hedgecock of Boone, and Levi Hedgecock of Summerfield; mother and father Elizabeth and James Hedgecock of Colfax; sisters Charlanne Hedgecock of Colfax, Michele Ballard and Johnny of High Point, and Janet Melton and David of Panama City, Florida; brother Michael Hedgecock and Christy of Summerfield; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
