Charlie was born August 16, 1934 to the late Lillian Ester Peeples West and Ottie Alonzo West.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Pattie Mae Cummings West and a sister Barbara Swaim.

Survivors include his daughters, Sydney Cox, and Robyn Furr; son, John Wootten and wife Paula; grandchildren, Casey Sisk and wife Danielle, Lizzie Cox Welborn and husband Ron, Simon Cox and wife Amanda, Kaleb Matthews and wife Allison, Taylor Wootten, Abigail Gay; great-grandchildren, Ella, Carlyle, Eaves, and Wyndsor Welborn, twins John Crew and James Cal Cox, and Nina Matthews; brother, Richard West and sister, Betty Moose.

Charlie served in the US Navy aboard the USS North Hampton and USS Macon.  He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal for his honorable service to his country. He loved to sing and play the “doghouse” bass in the Johnny Davis trio with Dale McDuffie.

In 1965 Charlie married Pattie Cummings, and they were together until her death in 2007. Charlie lived by these ideals: Loving thy neighbor, doing unto others, and some of his last words were “everyone needs to be appreciated”.

Special thanks to Susan Kerner and Lansing Hewitt, and Willie Bennett for taking such good care of Charlie.
