Kernersville - Ellen Shaw Clodfelter, 97, died December 28, 2007 at Sunbridge Nursing Facility in High Point.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00AM Monday at Bunker Hill United Methodist Church with Rev. Neill Shaw and Rev. Patrick Snow officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

A native of Guilford County she was the daughter of the late Donna Lowe and James Shaw. Known as "the Gum Lady", she was a member of Bunker Hill United Methodist Church for over 70 years, where she was also a member of the Adult Sunday School Class and Circle #2. She was an active member for many years of the Horneytown Fire Department Ladies Auxillary. She was a member of Guilford County Homemakers Society and was presented many awards over the years for her cooking and sewing.

She was preceded in death by her husband Delbert Clodfelter and a son Jerry Clodfelter.

Survivors include a grandson and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will visit with friends following the service at the church, in the church fellowship hall.

Walkertown - Lawrence Franklin Guy, 92, died December 28, 2007.

Funeral Service will be held at 4:00PM Sunday at the Pierce-Jefferson Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Eastlawn Gardens of Memory.

He was the son of the late Katherine and Tom Guy. He was retired from the US Air Force having served two tours of duty in Vietnam. He was preceded in death by a son Tom Guy.

Survivors include his wife Muriel Gambill Guy of the home; step-daughters Shirley Lawson and Ray of Winston-Salem, Teresa Bowers and Jimmy of Germanton, and Regina Borden and Trent of Florida; step-son Tim Miles and Nancy of Walkertown; three grandchildren, eight step-grandchildren, and seven step-great-grandchildren.

The family will visit with friends following the service at the funeral home on Sunday.

Kernersville - Charles Keith Stafford, 65, of 118 Adams Street died December 26, 2007.

Funeral Service will be held at 2:00PM Sunday December 30, 2007 at the Pierce-Jefferson Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Mt. Gur Cemetery.

A native of Forsyth County, he was the son of the late Jessie Mae Harden and Carl Swain Stafford.

Kernersville - Marian Delores Stolarski Curia, 92, passed away peacefully December 24, 2007 at the home of Carol and Herb Pennington.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00AM Saturday December 29, 2007 at Holy Cross Catholic Church with Father Joseph Tustin O.S.F.S. officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Gur Cemetery.

She was born January 8, 1915 in Camden, NJ. She was the daughter of the late Mary Melloviwiz and Anthony Stolarski. She served as a Deputy Sherriff in Burlington County, NJ for a number of years. She was a homemaker and a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church and the Columbiettes. She moved from Maple Shade, New Jersey and had made Kernersville her home for the past 18 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband Michael John Curia, Sr.; her brother Frank Stolarski; her sister Irene Zawisza; and a grandson Michael Kyle Curia.

Survivors include her son Michael J. Curia and his wife Mutsuko Gonokami-Curia of Winston-Salem; daughter Sharon Allen and her husband John of Collegeville, PA; daughter-in-law Carol Pennington and her husband Herb of Kernersville; sister Helen Patton of Cherry Hill, NJ; seven grandchildren Dawn Leifeste and her husband Brian of Kernersville, Daniel Curia and his wife Lori of Apex, Dennis Van Hise and his wife April of Exton, PA, Laura, Dana, and Jonathan Allen of Collegeville, PA, Emi Curia of Winston-Salem, and honorary granddaughter Katie Pennington of Kernersville; and four great-grandchildren Megan and Jessica Cain, and Jenna and Claire Curia.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Friday night at the Pierce-Jefferson Funeral Home. A reception will be held following the interment services on Saturday, in the fellowship hall at Holy Cross Catholic Church.

Kernersville - James Gray Needham, 73, died December 23, 2007 at Beacon Place in Greensboro.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00PM Thursday December 27, 2007 at the Pierce-Jefferson Funeral Home Chapel in Kernersville. Interment will follow at Mt. Gur Cemetery in Kernersville.

A native of Guilford County, he was the son of the late Gertrude Gray and Otis Needham. He was a landscaper working with Phillips Management Group for 30plus years. Mr. Needham loved his family and his passion was with all of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister Virginia "Jenny" Needham.

Survivors include his sister Margaret Needham of Colfax; daughter Judy Lunsford of Gibsonville; sons Wesley Needham and Teresa of Greensboro, and Rudy Needham and Sheila of Colfax; grandchildren Chris Needham and Melissa, Jason Needham, Gray Burton, Lindsey Lunsford, Brandi Needham, and Drew Needham; great-grandchildren Harlie Needham, Ivie Needham, Ansley Needham, and Haley Burton.

Oak Ridge - Nathaniel Williard Anders, two month old son of Debora Hill Anders and Samuel Anders died December 23, 2007.

Funeral Service will be held at 2:00PM Saturday December 29, 2007 at Moravia Moravian Church with Rev. Ramona Routh officiating. Interment will follow in the church graveyard.

A native of Guilford County, Nathaniel had valiantly fought through numerous health challenges in his life. He will be dearly missed by all who were able to know him.

Kernersville - Chad Jason Huie, 32, passed away unexpectedly, Saturday December 22, 2007 at his home.

Funeral Services are scheduled for 11:00AM Friday December 28, 2007 at the Pierce-Jefferson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Roger Pinnix officiating. Interment will follow in Oaklawn Cemetery.

Born November 10, 1975, he is the son of Beverly Thompson Hill and Keith Monroe Huie. He was a graduate of East Forsyth High School Class of '93 where he excelled in wrestling. He finished 1992 as State Wrestling runner-up in his weight class. Chad was and avid body builder and was runner-up in his division many times. He worked for many years with Living Water Pools with his closest and best friend Danny Hanson. Chad was of the Baptist faith. Chad loved to go to Topsail Island and fish, especially carp fishing, with his Dad. Chad was loved more than he ever knew and will be missed more than words can describe.

Survivors include his close and loving brother Brian Huie of Winston-Salem; daughter Samantha Huie of Old Town; son Zachary Collins of Walkertown; mother Beverly Hill and Scott of Winston-Salem; father Keith Huie and Gail of Walkertown; nephew Christopher McBride of Belews Creek; grandfather Monroe Huie and Ruth of Winston-Salem; numerous aunts and uncles.

Kernersville - Spencer Charles Ladd, Sr., 83, died December 21, 2007 at Forsyth Medical Center.

Funeral Service will be held at 11:00AM Monday December 24, 2007 at the Pierce-Jefferson Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Bobby Roberson officiating. Interment will follow in the Gardens of Memory in Walkertown.

A native of Forsyth County he was the son of the late Elizabeth Ann Parrish and Elisha Ladd. He was a WWII Veteran, where he served with the 82nd AirBorne Division. He was a member of Gospel Light Baptist Church, where he faithfully served the bus ministry and choir of the church for 40 plus years.

He was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy Mulvey Ladd who died in February of 2006. He was also preceded in death by a son Terrance Ladd, and sisters Margaret Betts and Shirley Ladd.

Survivors include his daughter Victoria Hester and Jack; sons Gary Ladd and Sharon, Charles Ladd, Jr. and Jane, and Thomas Ladd and Lynn; daughter in law Betty Wiles; sisters Beulah Worrell, and Wanda Eller; brothers Thurman and Clay Ladd; nine grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Winston-Salem - Robert "Bob" Henri Kegarise, 85, died December 20, 2007 at Forsyth Medical Center.

A Service remembering his life will be held at 4:00PM Saturday, December 22, 2007 at the Pierce-Jefferson Funeral Home Chapel.

A native of Newcastle, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Kathleen Helen Matthews and Ralph Reed Kegarise. He was a WWII Army Air Corp Veteran. During WWII he flew 26 missions as pilot of a B-26 Marauder with the 9th Air Corp 394 Bomber Group. He was a graduate of Mount Union College and a retired CPA.

Survivors include his daughter Jody Boulware and Danny of Winston-Salem; son Richard Kegarise and Linda of Parma, Ohio; brothers Ralph Kegarise of Walnut Creek, CA, and Ronald Kegarise and Ann of Franklin, Tennessee; half-sisters Carole Hill and R.L. of Savannah, Georgia, and Linda Bennett and Rex of Walnut Cove; grandchildren Taylor and Patrick Boulware of Winston-Salem.

Colfax - Barbara Bryant Patterson, 55, of Sandy Ridge Road went home to be with her Lord, December 17, 2007, as she was surrounded by her family.

Services remembering her life will be held at 7:30PM Thursday evening December 20, 2007 at the Pierce-Jefferson Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Bobby Roberson officiating.

A native of Forsyth County she was the daughter of the late Bertha Mabel Parrish and Ezekiah Edgar Bryant. She was a homemaker, but had been employed at the Holiday Inn-Airport.

Survivors include her husband R.D. Patterson of the home; daughter Michelle Dempsey and Stephen of Kernersville; sons Mark Aaron Patterson of Colfax and Charles Patterson of Summerfield; brother Edgar Wayne Bryant of Kernersville; sisters Pat Nelson and Joyce Turpin both of Kernersville, and Geneva Turpin of Pinnacle.

Kernersville - Martha Justice Coburn, 91, died December 13, 2007.

Kernersville - Winifred North Morgan, 89, formerly of Hastings Drive, died December 8, 2007 at Brookridge Retirement Community in Winston-Salem.

Funeral Service is scheduled for Noon on Tuesday December 11, 2007 at the Pierce-Jefferson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dale Hilton officiating. Inurnment will follow in the Main Street United Methodist Church Cemetery.

A native of Bedford, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Nellie Cauble and Thomas Watson North. She was a longtime member of Main Street United Methodist Church. She was Chairperson for the March of Dimes following the Polio Epidemic in 1948, and she remained committed to that cause for a number of years afterward. She was a member of the Friends of the Library, and thoroughly enjoyed her Bridge Club.

She was the wife of the late John Theodore "Jack" Morgan, and she was also preceded in death by her brother Thomas Watson North, Jr..

Survivors include her daughters Candace Morgan Swain and Jeffrey of Morehead City, and Micol Morgan Parsons and Mike of Winston-Salem; son John T. Morgan, Jr. of Winston-Salem; grandchildren Georgiana Christy Straus, Mary North Gernstein and Gary, Jillian Swain, and Matthew Parsons and Jennifer; great grandchildren Trey Ward, Ryan Parsons, Gavin Parsons, Nicholas Straus, and Sarah Davis.

Colfax - Barbara Jean Gray Nance, 71, of 215 S. Bunker Hill Road died December 5, 2007.

A native of Guilford County, she was the daughter of the late Ruby Bull and Dewey Hastings Gray.

Her husband Limuel "Bud" Nance died August 23, 2007. She was also preceded in death by her son Tony Lee Nance, and brothers Joe Beason Gray, Zane Hastings Gray, Donald James Gray, and Gary Franklin Gray.

Survivors include her son Limuel Grayson Nance and his wife Tammy Swain Nance of Colfax; granddaughter Stormi Nance and grandson Cody Nance both of Colfax; sisters Reba Abernathy Fields of Colfax, Mary Catherine Payne and her husband Robert of High Point; brother Herbert C. "Herbie" Gray and his wife Linda of Colfax; sister-in-law Mary Dean of Kernersville; brother-in-law Claude Mabe of Kernersville; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Kernersville - Jack Hobert Angel, 84, of 812 Birch Lane died December 4, 2007 at his home.

Funeral Services will be held at Noon on Friday at the Pierce-Jefferson Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Jerry Gibbons officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Gur Cemetery.

A native of Forsyth County, he was born July 16, 1923 to the late Martha Alma Macy and William Addison Angel. Prior to his retirement he worked in textiles and Drexel Heritage Furniture Company in High Point. He attended Kernersville Friends Meeting as long as his health permitted.

He was preceded in death by sisters Nellie Angel Brannon, Bessie and Ollie Angel, and Zula Angel Hedgecock; brothers Howard and Hugh Angel.

Survivors include his sisters Mary Angel Mason of Kernersville and Dorothy Angel Idol Link of Lexington; nieces Mary Alice Yow of Reidsville, Pat Phillips of Kernersville, Geraldine Brooks of Beaufort, NC, and Myrna Hedgecock DeSappio of Orlando, FL; nephews Eddie Idol of Lexington and Donnie Mason of Kernersville.

Greensboro - Mariana De Jesus Guerrero, 83, died December 3, 2007 at the home of her son.

A native of Ecuador, she was the daughter of the late Corina Coello and Manuel Guerrero.

Colfax - Zane Hastings Gray, 79, went home to be with the Lord on the evening of November 28, 2007 at Forsyth Medical Center.

Funeral Services have been scheduled for 2:00PM Saturday at Pierce-Jefferson Funeral Home Chapel in Kernersville. Interment will follow directly in Mt. Gur Cemetery.

A native of Guilford County, he was a retiree from Chevron Corporation. He served in the US Army at Fort Polk, LA. He was the son of the late Ruby Mae Bull and Dewey Hastings Gray. He loved farming, cattle, and spending time with his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his brothers Joe Beeson Gray, James Donald Gray, and Gary Franklin Gray.

Survivors include two daughters Sherree Dawn Sanders and her husband John of Greenville, SC, and grandchildren Benjamin, Kristin, and Justin Sanders; daughter Martha Diane Gray of Greensboro; sisters Reba Abernathy Fields and Barbara Jean Nance, and Mary Catherine Gray Payne of High Point; brother Herbert C. Gray of Colfax.

Kernersville - Larry A. Reed, 68, a beloved husband, father, and grandfather passed away on November 28, 2007.

Funeral Services are scheduled for 11:00AM Tuesday, December 4, 2007 at Windsor Baptist Church in Eagle, Pennsylvania. The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service starting at 10AM. Interment will follow in Great Valley Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Malvern, PA.

A native of West Chester, PA, he was the son of the late Mary Thelma Seaboldt and Alton "Pete" Orlando Reed. He formerly lived in Eagle and Downington Pennsylvania, Herndon, Virginia, and Jacksonville, Florida. He was a graduate of Villanova University Class of '73, and received his Masters Degree from Drexel University in 1980.

He was retired from Bell Atlantic after 37 years and currently worked with United States Postal Service in Greensboro. He served with the Minquas Fire Department in Downington for several years during the late 60's and early '70's. He was a member of Windsor Baptist Church, First Baptist Church in Downington, PA, and Vienna Presbyterian Church and Bayview Baptist Church. He was a U.S. Army Veteran having served in Germany from 1961 to 1964 and received a Good Conduct Medal.

He was a 32nd Degree Mason with the Henry Lodge #57 in Fairfax, VA and also was a member of the Scottish Rite. He was District Deputy Grand Master for the 4th Masonic District and was District Instructor of Work for the 58th Masonic District.

Survivors include his loving wife Marilou Garland Reed of the home; daughter Mary Beth Reed of Santa Clarita, CA; son Timothy Reed and his wife Lysa Reed of Aspen, CO; grandchildren Taylor and Brenon Reed of Aspen, CO; brother James Nelson Reed of Wayne, PA.

Kernersville - David Gene Price, 54, went home to be with his Lord, November 21, 2007.

A native of Winston-Salem, he was the son of the late Elsie Mae Black and Robert Clinton Price. He was a US Army Vietnam Veteran. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter Chelsea Lea Price.

Kernersville - Pauline Wilson "Polly" Reich, 82, died peacefully, Friday November 16, 2007 at Forsyth Medical Center.

A native of Forsyth County, she was the daughter of the late Minnie Martha Shields and Edgar Lee Wilson. She was a longtime member of Pisgah United Methodist Church. Her life was full of caring and activity. She was a star basketball player and later played on the Hanes Hosiery professional traveling team. Her favorite thing to do was to help people who were down on their luck and needed a helping hand.

She loved to compose poetry and other forms of writing. She will be missed by all those who loved her, and by the community in which she lived.

Survivors include her husband, with whom she would have celebrated 62 years of marriage on November 24, David W. Reich of the home; son David W. Kernersville - Alberta Stack "Bet" Grubbs. God, in his infinite mercy and wisdom, summoned the Angels to the Brian Center in Lexington, NC to bring Mrs. Alberta Stack "Bet" Grubbs to Himself on the morning of November 7, 2007. She was not frightened at all, but had been anxiously awaiting the call from her Heavenly Father to take her home to Heaven.

She was born to Della Warner and Pervie A. Stack, Sr., who predeceased her. She was married to Willie Hauser Grubbs, Sr., and they spent most of their life in Kernersville. He passed away several years ago. Also, going before her were an infant son, Willie Hauser, Jr., along with two sisters and four brothers.

Surviving are four sons, William Grubbs and wife Brenda, and Bobby Grubbs and wife Judy all of Kernersville, Lee Allen Grubbs and wife Darlene of Thomasville, and Donald "Shorty" Grubbs and wife Diane of Advance.

Also surviving are two sisters, Sue Caudle of Winston-Salem, and Dolores Flowers of Florida. She was a loving Grandmother to eight grandchildren, and 24 great grandchildren.

An important event in her life was when she accepted Christ as her Saviour and joined Kerwin Baptist Church 55 years ago, where she remained a member for the rest of her life. She was committed to her God, her Family, and her Church, living a life of sacrifice, always "esteeming others better than herself". Her life characterized by her faith in God, congeniality and humility.

Calvary Parochial School in Forestville, Maryland. She was past Queen of the Knights of Columbus Auxiliary Council 4076. She was a member of Broadbay ECA Forsyth County, and the Holy Cross Columbiettes. She was preceded in death by her loving husband John Paul Logan, Sr., sisters Matilda and Adeline, brothers Francis and Joseph, and daughter-in-law Sharon Logan.

Mrs. Clark was born in Stokesdale but moved with her family to Kernersville as a small child. She was the Daughter of the late Abram and Lillian Vaughn Young. She worked for Adams Millis for many years and later retired from Macke Vending Company. She was a lifetime member of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church of Kernersville.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years Ollie Lee Clark.

Kernersville - James Ronald "Ronnie" Osborne, Sr., 68, died October 26, 2007 following several months of serious health problems until the Lord said, "Enough".

Funeral Services are scheduled for 11:00AM Monday, October 29, 2007 at Main Street United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Ronnie was born June 2, 1939 in Forsyth County to Earline Hubbard and James Lewis Osborne. He graduated from Kernersville High School in 1957 where he was an outstanding baseball and basketball player. During his senior year he outpitched Gaylord Perry to help Kernersville win the State High School Baseball Championship. Ronnie later signed a professional baseball contract with the Cleveland Indians. He played shortstop for McLean Trucking, City Beverage, and Whitney Furniture fast-pitch softball. He was awarded Tournament MVP on both the State and the East Coast Regional levels.

Ronnie was an avid fisherman, golfer, and absolutely loved hunting. He took the most pride in the years spent as a Little League Coach helping numerous young men fulfill their dreams of playing baseball. In 1971 he coached a group of 15 year old All Stars who advanced to the semi-finals of the Senior League World Series. He continued to coach, from behind home plate, in his most recent years as he watched his grandsons play. In 1984 he was inducted into the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Sportsman Hall of Fame for his excellence as a basketball and baseball player. He is also a candidate for the State Softball Association Hall of Fame.

Ronnie was a member of Main Street United Methodist Church where he served on various committees and was co-chair of the Senior Adult Heritage Club. He served as Communion Steward along with his family. He retired from Duke Power after 30 years of service.

Surviving are his wife of 50 years, and high school sweetheart, Judy Whicker Osborne; daughters and sons-in-law Debbie Smith and Mike of Kernersville, Tracy Whitaker and Michael of Walnut Cove, and Amy Cook and George of Walnut Cove; son and daughter-in-law James Ronald "Rod" Osborne, Jr. and Christine of Milton, GA; grandchildren Matt, Mallory, and Meredith Osborne of Milton, GA, Casey and Jason Smith of Kernersville, Brandon, Austin, and Camryn Whitaker of Walnut Cove, and Haley Cook of Walnut Cove; sister Alice O. Hill of Kernersville; nieces Cynthia Kiger and Kathy Hill of Kernersville; sister-in-law Curtis W. Campbell of Kernersville.

The family request that the 15 year old All-Star team and any other young men who he coached or directed their lives would serve as honorary pallbearers.

Kernersville - David Phillip Grimes, 74, relocated to be with his Lord on October 21, 2007.

A native of Forsyth County, he was the son of the late Ora Kate Lawrence and William Lewis Grimes. He was pastor of Life Tabernacle in High Point for over 32 years. A "jack of all trades", David laid brick, sold tires and cars, and generally was able to do about anything for his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his sisters Vivian, Juanita, and Norma Jean.

A native of Ohio, "Bill" was the son of the late John and Frances McAlindon of Cuyahoga, Ohio. He was a WWII Air Force Veteran. He was retired from Volvo, and also had worked with Keller-Williams Realty. Bill was a long and faithful member of Holy Cross Catholic Church where he sang in the choir and was soloist for numerous funerals and weddings. He was a lifetime member of Knights of Columbus Council 8509 and a 4th Degree Knight. He was active with Kernersville Little Theatre, Hospice of Forsyth, and The Shepherd's Center. He had been an actor and singer for Kernersville Little Theatre for a number of years. Bill was an extraordinary giver of himself. He worked with special needs children at Topsail Beach Retreats sponsored by the church. He was active with the Pro-Life movement, and even in death continued his generosity as an organ donor. He was preceded in death by his first wife Elizabeth Marie Swartz, his second wife Wanda Cox, and a son Steven.

Surviving are his one true and devoted friend Theresa Freibott, and her children, which he liked to call his own, Jennifer & Bill Bass and Barbara Freibott and Kris Clinard, and a truly special "granddaughter" Hannah, and also, "granddaughter" Nicole Thomas; a son Gregory McAlindon and his wife Nicole of Federal Way, WA.

Kernersville - Louise F. Carter, 94, died peacefully October 13, 2007 at the Huntersville, NC home of her daughter Caroline.

Funeral Services will be held 4:00PM Tuesday, October 16, 2007 at Kernersville Moravian Church, 504 S. Main Street in Kernersville. Interment will follow in the church graveyard.

She was born November 21, 1912 in Forsyth County. She was the daughter of the late Mary Elizabeth Crews and William E. Flynt. She was a long time member of Kernersville Moravian Church. Louise was a beautiful girl who became a beautiful woman. She started from humble beginnings as one of eight children. When her mother died very young, Louise rose to become the matriarch of a very large family, and they loved and respected her without reservation. She will be deeply mourned by her family and friends.

She was the married for sixty-one years to the late Clyde E. Carter who died in February of 1994. She was also predeceased by a daughter Sandra Carter.

Survivors are daughters Colleen Hayes and her husband Larry of Lake Norman, and Caroline "Butchie" Thomason of Huntersville; seven grandchildren Patrick McCrain and his wife Cindy, Jason McCrain and his wife Daphne, and Matthew McCrain all of Charlotte; Mark Hayes and his wife Susan of Tucson, AZ; David Hayes and his wife Debra of Essex, VT; Jennifer Mandela and her husband Joseph of Lake Norman; and Sharon Elliott of Lake Norman; she is also survived by eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson who all will sorely miss their beloved "Grandma Easie".

A native of Belmont, NC, he was the son of the late Mary Adeline Clark and Oscar Earl Hartness. He had worked for a number of years for McLean Trucking Company and also Roadway Express. Recently he had enjoyed working at the Transfer Station in Walnut Cove.

Survivors include his wife Mabel Smith Hartness of Walnut Cove; daughters Vickie H. Wilkes and her husband Danny of Kernersville, and Patricia Weitfeldt and fiancée Tim Salopek of Punta Gorda, FL; son Michael Hartness and his wife June of Walnut Cove; grandchildren Kimberly King, Tara Jenkins, Casey Lozzi, Jake Weitfeldt, and Hannah Hartness; great grandchildren Brady and Brennan King, Halle and Chase Jenkins, and Jake and David Lozzi; brothers Bill Hartness of California, Dale Hartness of Ohio, Vance Hartness of North Carolina, and Wayne Hartness of Mississippi.

Kernersville - Pat Cummings West, 77, died peacefully, with her family by her side, October 5, 2007 at her home.

A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00PM Monday, October 8, 2007 at Kernersville Moravian Church with Rev. Don Winters officiating.

She was born in Kernersville on March 11, 1930 to the late Dorothy Elizabeth Mayes and John Martin Cummings. She was a graduate of Kernersville High School and St. Leo's Hospital of Nursing in Greensboro, NC. She spent most of her time in the Medical field of Pediatrics. Under Kiki Xammara at Wake Forest University she was a statistician and worked patient check-in at reservation. She also worked in space control with the former Piedmont Airlines. Once she retired she opened a small daycare and was fondly called "Mommie Pat" by the many children in the Kernersville area.

Pat was a lifelong member of Kernersville Moravian Church, where she played in the band, sang in the choir, and along with her husband was a Youth Leader. She was a retired member of the Joseph Kerner Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a member of the Red Hatters.

Pat went blind in 1964 for a time of nearly two years. With assistance and loving care from Charlie, the grace of God, and professional staff of Duke Medical Hospital her sight was restored. Thank you, Charlie, for your kind and loving care during her time of darkness.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a sister Lucy E. Foster, a brother John E. Cummings, and a beloved cousin Mrs. Ted Kerner.

Survivors include her beloved husband Charles L. West of the home; daughters Sydney Wootten Cox and her husband Robert of Collierville, Tennessee, and Robyn Wootten Furr of Clemmons; son John Martin Wootten and his wife Paula of Walnut Cove; granddaughters Elizabeth Cox Welborn and her husband Ron of Ft.Worth, TX, Taylor Marie Wootten of Walnut Cove, Abigail Martin Gay of Clemmons; grandsons Robert Casey Sisk of Kernersville, John Simon Cox of Ft.Worth, TX, and Charles Kaleb Mathews and his wife Allison of Winston-Salem; two great granddaughters Ella Elizabeth Welborn and Carlyle Bess Welborn both of Ft. Worth, TX; niece Linda Foster Waters of Clemmons; nephew Robert Foster of Cape Canaveral, FL.

Kernersville - Kathy T. Wyrick, 46, of 333 Clay Flynt Road went home to be with her Lord, October 5, 2007, following a lengthy illness.

A native of Union City, Tennessee she was the daughter of Florence Marie Smith and Robert Lee Goodman. Mother and Father in law Jeanie and Bobby Wyrick of Greensboro. She was employed with American General Auto Finance Company. She was preceded in death by a sister Robbie Marie Hudson, maternal grandparents Iris Dovie and Millard Smith, and paternal grandparents Lois and Sam Goodman.

Kernersville - James M. "Jimmy" Baker, Jr., 77, went home to be with his Mother on October 3, 2007.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:00PM Friday at the Chapel of the Eastlawn Gardens of Memory Mausoleum.

He was retired after 33 years of service that started with United Telephone Company in Kernersville. He was preceded in death by his Mother Margaret Tingen Baker. He also was preceded in death by his sisters Janie Sue and Juanita.

Winston-Salem - Peggie "Miga" L. Norris, 90, formally of Pine Knoll Shores, passed peacefully from this life on Monday, October 1, 2007.

A native of Cabell County, W. VA, she was the daughter of the late Bessie Mae DeVore and Harry Nelson Parthemore. She attended Marshall University in Huntington, W.VA. She volunteered at Wesley Long Hospital. She also worked at UNC-G and Salem Academy as a residential counselor. She was a freelance model for Montaldo's. She was a member of the Honorary Golden Chain Society. She served as a Girl Scout leader from 1959-1966. She was preceded in death by her husband John A. Norris, Jr., and her sister Amy Graham.

Survivors include her daughter Sandy Norris of Kernersville; sons Dan Derby of Tuftonboro, NH, and John A. Norris of Kernersville; six grandchildren Asheley Cooper, Eric A. Pittman, Brice C. Kernersville - Thomas Mason Chewning, Jr., 53 went home to be with his Lord on Monday, October 1, 2007.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00AM Saturday, October 6, 2007 at Grace Presbyterian Church, 360 Hopkins Road, Kernersville.

A native of Richmond, VA, he was born April 1, 1954 to Thomas and Audrey Chewning. He was employed by Harris-Teeter and Bi-Lo stores as manager for many years. He was the owner and operator of Helping Hands Lawn Maintenance Inc. Most recently, he was employed with Standard Register of High Point.

He was an active member, and deacon, of Grace Presbyterian Church. His life of service for others grew out of his love for his Lord Jesus Christ.

Survivors include his wife Crystal of the home; daughters Jessica and Lindsay of the home, Michelle of Greensboro, and Amber of Durham; son Jacob(Amanda) of Ft. Bragg, NC; parents Tom and Audrey Chewning of Yadkinville; sister Janet(Ken) of Yadkinville; brothers Mike of Union Grove, and Timmy(Janet) of Taylorsville; three grandchildren Aydin, Alec, and Camron Chewning.

Kernersville - Tom William Hamilton, 92, died October 1, 2007.

A Service will be held at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery.

He was born in Coneautville, Pennsylvania, but he was a native of Erie, PA. He was the son of the late Emma Fuller and William Samuel Hamilton. He was a graduate of Penn State University with a degree in finance and marketing. He was a WWII US Navy Veteran, where he proudly served as a Lieutenant Commander on the USS Beatty out of Philadelphia, PA. He was especially close to Colonel Tommy Outerson.

He loved his children, and grandchildren, and had a special bond with his granddaughter Brianne. He loved fishing, hunting, small club memberships, and he had a particularly quick sense of wit. He was a Mason and a Shriner.

Survivors include his daughter Leslie Hamilton Henderson of Boynton Beach, Florida; sons Tom F. Hamilton and wife Susan of Kernersville, and William G. Hamilton of Reston, VA; six grandchildren.

Kernersville - David “Mutt” Glasscoe, 81, died September 16, 2007 after six weeks of hospitalization.

A native of Forsyth County, he was the son of the late Fannie Bell Linville and John Harvey Glasscoe. A farmer all his life, he was also a life-long member of Bunker Hill United Methodist Church. He retired from the Horneytown Volunteer Fire Department after 23 years of service. Preceding him in death were his wife Marie Crews Glasscoe who died in 1997 and sisters Rachel Willard and Helen Wall, and brothers John and James Glasscoe.

Survivors include his daughters Kathy Wilson and his favorite son-in-law Chip Wilson, Becky Glasscoe, and Jeanne Hill all of Kernersville; grandchildren Chris Wilson, Zachary Wilson and Lacey Padgett, Dustin Fulk and Heather Hicks, and Molly Conger; great granddaughter Kayla Marie Wilson; sisters Mary Idol of Kernersville and Esther Reed of Advance; a very special friend Doris Lewis; and a multitude of nieces, nephews, and their families.

All who knew him were touched by his gentle caring soul, charisma, faith, love for his family and friends, wit, and his heartfelt devotion during Marie's last years.

Kernersville - Laura Vaughn Kirk, 44, died August 29, 2007.

A native of Forsyth County she was the daughter of Nancy Lee Tuttle and William Hailey Kirk, Jr. who survive. She was a graduate of East Forsyth High School Class of '81, and Cornell University in 1985. Vaughn had worked for several years for the U.S. Government.

Kernersville - Robert William Keller, 82, of 2117 Gateway Place Lane, passed away August 25, 2007.

Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00am, Monday, August 27, 2007 at Holy Cross Catholic Church, with Father Joseph Tustin O.S.F.S. officiating, and assisting him will be Rev. Mr. Gene Gillis. Interment will in Eastlawn Gardens of Memory Cemetery.

Survivors include his Loving Wife Jennie Phillips Keller; Son Mark Robert and wife Lesa and their children Joshua, Benjamin, and Piper; and Son Christian John and wife Patti and their children John Christian and Brian Robert; many beloved nieces and nephews and one remaining sister, Laverne Lavosik.

He was preceded in death by his son David Michael Keller, and six other siblings.

Born September 11, 1924, a native of West Brownsville, PA, Mr. Keller is the son of the late Christian and Susannah Keller. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps as a 1st. Lieutenant during WWII in the European Theatre. After his honorable discharge he became an employee of the United States Steel Corporation Railroad System. He retired in 1983 as the Superintendent of Locomotives at the Bessemer and Lake Erie Railroad in Greenville, PA. He spent 23 years retired in Aiken, South Carolina before moving to Kernersville, NC. He was a life member of the V.F.W., the Benevolent Paternal Order of the Elks, and past president of the Lions Club. He was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church.

He had a lifelong love for baseball, the outdoors, his friends and above all his family. He will always be missed by his family and anyone who knew him.

Colfax - Limuel A.”Bud” Nance, 74, of 215 S. Bunker Hill Road died August 23, 2007.

He was preceded in death by a son Tony Lee Nance, a sister Emily Arlene Mabe, and a brother Jack Welborn Nance.

Kernersville - Ina Crews Amos, 86, died August 17, 2007.

A native of Guilford County she was the daughter of the late Ima Pegram and Harper I. Crews. She had worked for a number of years with the Forsyth County Tax Office. In addition to her membership at Bunker Hill United Methodist Church, she also was a member of Circle #1 and served as treasurer of the Circle. She thoroughly enjoyed her knitting, crocheting, and will be remembered fondly for her "Prayer Shawls" and "Chrismons".

She was preceded in death by her husband George W. Amos, who she celebrated 50 years of marriage with on October 9, 1987. She was also preceded in death by a beloved grandson Stephen Amos, brothers Gorrell "Doc" Crews, T.E. Crews, James I. Crews, and a sister Marie C. Glascoe.

Kernersville - Algie Mae Hodges Pulliam, 87, went home to be with her Lord on August 13, 2007.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00PM Thursday, August 16 at Bethany Baptist Church in Greensboro with Rev. Jeff Morgan officiating. Interment will follow in Guilford Memorial Park in Greensboro.

A native of the Leaksville area of Eden, she was the daughter of the late Cora Lee Shaw and James Henry Hodges. She was a member of Bethany Baptist Church and a homemaker. She was very active with the D.A.V. and volunteered at Veteran's Hospital in Durham. She loved playing the guitar and banjo while singing on a radio program from Martinsville, VA. She had played with a family Bluegrass Band during her younger life. She was preceded in death by her husband Lester Ray Pulliam, Sr., and sons Eldon and Eddie Pulliam.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law Ray Pulliam, Jr. and Phyllis, and son Ricky Pulliam all of Kernersville, son Wayne Pulliam of Kernersville; grandchildren Mark, Dawn, Pat, Sheila, Scotty, Tracy, Travis, and Ricky; 19 great grandchildren.

Linda M. Hester, 56, of Newport News, VA formerly of Winston-Salem, NC died Saturday August 4, 2007 at home after a courageous battle with breast cancer. Linda attended TNCC, received two ABA degrees, attended St. Leo College, received a BS in Mathematics, attended Cambridge College, received a MA in Education. She was honored in Who's Who in American Colleges 1990, a former member of Toastmasters International and Phi Theta Kappa. She was on the Dean's List consistently at all three colleges. She taught Mathematics at Menchville and Denbigh High Schools in Newport News, VA. Survived by her husband of 38 years, Jay Hester, her three sons and their spouses, Jason and Elizabeth Hester, Brian and Lori Hester and Niel Hester and Erica Lambert, 8 precious grandchildren, Esther Levinson, Aaron Moon, Sarah Hester, Mackenzie Hester, Alexis Hester, Abigail Hester, Alexis Stiffler, Nicholas Hester and friends, Sallie and Lee Hill, Lona and Bob Waggoner and Terri and Don Hollomon.

A funeral service will be held at Pierce-Jefferson Funeral Home in Kernersville, NC on Wed Aug 8 at 12:00PM with burial in Waughtown Cemetery. Walnut Cove - John Randolph Cromwell, 55, died July 30, 2007 at Forsyth Medical Center.

A native of Hutchinson, Kansas, John was the son of the late Bertha Weed and Robert Cromwell. He was a civil engineer and had worked with Boeing in Seattle, Washington for many years. John loved life, his family, and was engaged to his long time companion Dorothy "Dottie" Dixon.

Kernersville - Arthur Paul Burgess, 83, died July 29 at Hospice of Union County.

Memorial Services will be held at a later date.

He was a native of Grassflat, Pennsylvania. One of nine children, he was the son of the late Helen and John Burgess. He worked with the RF & P Railroad for many years prior to his retirement. He was the husband of the late Betty Jean Curry Burgess who died January 31, 2006. He attended Kernersville Moravian Church.

Walkertown - Emery Junior "Bud" Knight, 72, of Grubbs Road died July 27, 2007 at his home.

A Memorial Service will be held at 7:30 PM Monday night at the Pierce-Jefferson Funeral Home Chapel in Kernersville.

A native of Guilford County, he was the son of the late Ethel Parrish and Emery Gorrell Knight. He was also predeceased by his daughter Judy Irene Knight and a brother Paul Knight.

Colfax - Douglas R. "Dougie" Gray, 34, of 903 Crosscreek Road died July 24, 2007 in Scottsboro, Alabama.

"Dougie" was the son of Wanda Christine Atkins and Douglas Raymond Gray who survive of the home. He was a contractor and a Professional Bass Fisherman. "Dougie" loved life to it's fullest, but fishing was his passion.
