About Us

Pierce-Jefferson Funeral Service is located in the original "Plunket Place", the first school in Kernersville. The Pierce House, as it is known now, was built in 1848. The Masons opened the school in 1856. It was a subscription school and parents supported it by paying tuition. The Henry Shore family later purchased the house and was living there until Ad Linville purchased the property for a funeral home. The Linville Funeral Home, started around 1930 and later becoming the Ragland Funeral Home, was purchased by Jack Pierce in 1965. Mr. Pierce sold the business in 1981 to a regional funeral firm, but continued to manage the business until his retirement in 1996.

December 1, 2004 Jack Pierce, in partnership with Danny Jefferson, again purchased the business that is now known as Pierce-Jefferson Funeral Service. Mr. Pierce was instrumental in the operations of the business until his death October 30, 2005. Danny Jefferson continues as the owner and maintains the local ownership with pride in "The Pierce House"
